Why do we do it?

Blogs are a funny thing. To think, who in her right mind would sit at their desk and pour out the innermost details of her personal life to complete strangers? Why do we do this? Is it for the feedback, some sort of free psychoanalysis? Does it make us feel important that others find us interesting (even if we can't even find ourselves to be so)?

For me, just getting my thoughts out of my head and onto paper, whether it be virtual paper or actual paper, makes me feel better. The process of getting the thoughts down in black and white makes it easier, usually, to reach a solution of some kind. Sometimes when we're able to look at our thoughts, the things we've been worrying about seem so trivial compared to the problems of others, things going on in the news, etc.

There are times I sit down to write in my own blog and find myself so absorbed in the stories in others blogs that I can't think of a thing to write. I can't imagine that anything I have to say is of interest to anyone else in the world. Although...I imagine some of the people writing in the blogs that I find so fascinating think the same thing about their own lives and writing.

Maybe this is why reality television is so popular, why soap operas have been popular for so many years. We all get to sit back for a while, absorb ourselves in someone else's life, troubles, romances, jobs, family...forget about our own shit for a while.

The human race truly is fascinating.
