My grandma

I wrote this because I thought that my grandma's obituary didn't say nearly enough about her, who she was, what she was, how she lived her life.

My grandma ...

She was not a learned woman.
She was superstitious and simple.
She was also humble, wise, stubborn, and beautiful.
She was kisses goodnight,
Secret winks,
Freshly baked cookies, chicken and dumplings, pinto beans and cornbread,
Someone to be feared,
Someone to be respected,
Someone who would not tolerate dishonesty,
Someone who refused to change,
No matter how much the world was changing around her.

She was hand-made quilts hanging on the clothesline on a warm, breezy, summer day.
She was Christmas
And baseball.
She was a knowing smile.
She was the scent of Oil of Olay and White Shoulders.
She was a long, slow glide on the front porch swing.

She was a commanding woman, my grandma,
Who was full of spunk, laughter, and more love than her heart could hold.

My grandma left behind a legacy of love.

I will miss her always.

There's a lot more to say about her, her life, her great love. Now is not that time. RIP Grandma, I love you.

All That We Let In

My beautiful and dear friend reminded me of this song this morning. Thank you.

All That We Let In
By: The Indigo Girls

Oooooooo
Oooooooo
Oooooooo

Dust in our eyes our own boots kicked up
Heartsick we nursed along the way we picked up
You may not see it when it's sticking to your skin
But we're better off for all that we let in

Lost friends and loved ones much too young
So much promises and work left undone
When all that guards us is a single centerline
And the brutal crossing over when it's time

Oooooooo
(I don't know where it all begins)
Oooooooo
(And I don't know where it all will end)
Oooooooo
(We're better off for all that we let in)

One day those toughies will be withered up and bent
The father son the holy warriors and the president
With glory days of put up dukes for all the world to see
Beaten into submission in the name of the free

We're in a nevolution I have heard it said
Everyone's so busy now but do we move ahead
The planets hurting and atoms splitting
And a sweater for your love you sit there knitting

Oooooooo
(I don't know where it all begins)
Oooooooo
(And I don't know where it all will end)
Oooooooo
(We're better off for all that we let in)

See those crosses on the side of the road
Tied with ribbons in the medium
They make me grateful I can go this far
Lay me down and never wake me up again

Kat writes a poem and she sticks it on my truck
We don't believe in war and we don't believe in luck
The birds were calling to her what were they saying
As the gate blew open the tops of the trees were swaying

I've passed the cemetery walk my dog down there
I read the names in stone and say a silent prayer
When I get home you're cooking supper on the stove
And the greatest gift of life is to know love

Oooooooo
(I don't know where it all begins)
Oooooooo
(And I don't know where it all will end)
Oooooooo
(We're better off for all that we let in)

Do I attract this crap?

So, today I'm down in the cafe ... (we have a little cafe at work in addition to the cafeteria and since I'm boycotting the cafeteria, I went down there to get a cup of coffee and a LC muffin). Anyway, I'm down in the cafe and while I'm waiting to be helped, I'm watching the supervisor. She's in the back making soup. I've never had the soup there. It's too high-carb for me, but I've heard it's delish. As I'm watching her prepare the soup, I'm immediately thankful that I've never tried it.

Are y'all ready for this? I watched in horror as she stirred the soup with a large serving spoon, then picked up a smaller teaspoon, dipped it in the soup, tasted it, then dipped it in the soup AGAIN!!!!

OMG! So, I came back up to my office sort of in shock. Then I decided I should call down there and tell her that I'd seen her do this. I called. She, of course, denied that this happened. I told her that I had, in fact, seen it with my own eyes. She said there were two spoons on the table next to the soup that she used for tasting. I said OK, but the one I saw you tasting the soup with TWICE never left your hand!

In the end, she said she'd throw out the soup and make a new batch.
I doubt that will happen.

People are so gross. It's one thing to do that at home when you're cooking for your own, but YEESH!

... end rant.

Customer service rant

I had a god-awful experience at work last week. Is it just me, or do people have absolutely no customer service skills whatsoever!?! So, here's what happened. I went down to the cafeteria to get some lunch. This was Thursday, btw. Anyway, I had a craving for a grilled cheese sandwich. They have a very good light wheat bread down in the cafeteria that only has 5 carbs per slice so I thought, "what the hell? I'll splurge a little." I ordered the sandwich and she asked what kind of bread I'd like. I told her light wheat. She said, I have white, wheat, or rye. I said, no, you have the light wheat bread too, it's right down there by the cold sandwich area. She said, "Oh. Well, I didn't bring any of that out. If you want it, go get it."

We're only talking about a matter of about 15 feet here. My point, she was already behind the counter. I was her customer. She should've gotten the bread for me. Instead, I had to walk down there, wait for the person in front of me to get their order, then have the person behind that counter hand me 2 pieces of bread. I was pissed and she could tell. Hell, everyone could tell.

The next day this same girl has the nerve to say to me, "what was with your attitude yesterday?" I went off. I told her she was rude and has very poor customer service skills. I told her she needs to work on that. I also ended up telling her supervisor about it after she stood there and argued with me. I'm usually not one to go over someone's head, but this girl was impossible. She really thought she'd done nothing wrong at all. She thinks that because I'm an employee (like her) that my patronage doesn't count, apparently. Whatever. I spend between $100 - $150 in that cafeteria per month. I have breakfast and lunch there daily. Sometimes I have snacks and/or dinner as well. I won't be doing so anymore. Fuck 'em.

I'm still pissed!

I have to get some work done. I'll actually post some deep thoughts later :)
